DESSERT is a short psychological thriller that follows Veronica, an artist who sees men in a different way. It gathers several artistic elements, and focuses on the psyche of the main character. A film made for audiences who enjoy thrillers and have an arthouse cinema sensibility.
"Art, Music and Film have always been elements that I grew up with. I decided to let these elements garnish a psychological story I had – a story who challenges the boundaries of art and ethics. However, instead of taking a more gory, horror approach to this story, I decided to use the element of Art to avoid this option, and flourish the story in a more meaningful and unique way. Death is the same as Art to the main character, and so I present the audience with several elements of art connected to death. This started creating a tone to the film that is not characteristic to psychological-thrillers – a tone of humour and satire. I decided to explore this and create a story full of detail and emotion, to give the audience an intense and visual experience. My main focus was to create a film that raises those elements in an audience, that opens the doors to the film viewing passion, and avoids the feeling of lack.
My biggest inspiration are the films of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and the way he creates the surreal world his characters live in, and delights the viewer with an intimate story very rich in detail." - Martim (Director and Producer)
"The artwork is the central piece for this film. We had to create something that establishes the eccentric and exotic style I was going to follow, and at the same time was unique and different than anything done before. Together, with my mother's artistic talent, we invented a style of art that not only is different but incorporates elements of food and paint with and expressionistic and gestural style." - Martim (Director and Producer)
